Roman Abramovich has reportedly given the green light for Chelsea to spend big on Erling Haaland this summer.
Chelsea are one of the main suitors for Borussia Dortmund striker Haaland, who has enjoyed a phenomenal rise to prominence in recent years.
The 20-year-old has long been on the radar of several of Europe’s UFABET top clubs. For example, Manchester United wanted him in January 2020, before he chose Dortmund instead.
The move has certainly paid off for Haaland, who has scored 43 goals in 43 games for the Bundesliga club. Now, he is being talked about as a potential future Ballon d’Or winner.
As long as he continues his meteoric rise, he will one day make a leap in quality by leaving Dortmund. The Premier League could be a likely destination.
The Leeds-born striker still has admirers at Man Utd, as well as rivals Man City. But Chelsea are also emerging as a serious contender.
Chelsea showed last summer that they were prepared to spend more than other clubs. They splashed the cash on the likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech.
However, Werner has struggled for consistency, leaving Chelsea thinking about signing another striker. Haaland is at the top of their wish-list.
The Norway international has a €75m release clause in his contract, but it is only valid from 2022. Therefore, Dortmund can command whatever price they want this summer.
There have been rumours that a failure to qualify for the Champions League would force them to sell Haaland on the cheap. However, their sporting director has denied this.
Even so, Haaland may still be on the move. Now, according to Bild, Chelsea owner Abramovich has sanctioned a big-money bid for the centre-forward.
Dortmund are currently demanding around €110m for Haaland’s signature. If Chelsea were to spend that much, he would become their all-time record signing.
But Abramovich seems willing to set aside large funds for the striker, who would guarantee them goals. Therefore, it seems they will be testing Dortmund’s resolve in the summer.
Haaland interest gives Chelsea striker doubts
If Chelsea do manage to land Haaland in the summer, then it may be a case of one in, one out.
Recent reports have indicated that one of the strikers currently at the club is reluctant to sign a new deal while Chelsea are trying to bring in extra competition for his place.
Haaland would likely become the first-choice at Stamford Bridge straight away, further pushing others down the pecking order.
